The Lyrics Are Amazingly Poignant

The theme song to “Martin” is worse than you remember it being

I can't even imagine how this came up.  Is this another deep dive into The Mind Of Jeremy?

Not at all!  Today's Sametime Status is brought to you by a deep dive into Youtube.

See, Youtube is a wonderful place.  It's a repository for some of the greatest songs and videos in history, to be unearthed nostalgically often by crazy random happenstance.  It's also the home of IceJJFish, but that's beside the point entirely.

Often, what will happen, is people find themselves in a Youtube Death Spiral where one video links to another and another that are somewhat related and piques the user's curiosity.  You have no choice but to click on the next video and watch that, only to be faced with the same dilemma a few minutes later.  Sometimes, this is great...as in the case where I was forced to explain why "Murray Head" was a great answer to a trivia question about Garry Kasparov.  The video for "One Night In Bangkok" ends with the following list of suggested songs:  Africa, Party All The Time, St. Elmo's Fire, Safety Dance, Everybody Wants To Rule The World, Land Of Confusion, West End Girls, Whip It, Rock Me Amadeus, Electric Avenue, and Der Kommissar.  Holy crap, that's amazing!

Other times, it can lead to dark times and despair, listening to old TV theme songs.  It starts off innocently enough, trying to remember if the Hill Street Blues theme song was as good as you thought it was (It's okay).  But it ends with "Hangin' With Mr. Cooper," and that's just no good for anybody.  that sort of thing just leaves you curled up in the fetal position wondering where the last two hours of your life have gone and wondering how many hours of your life you actually wasted watching "Hangin' With Mr. Cooper" (Thankfully, it couldn't have been that many, but the point remains valid).  One of the stops along the way was the theme song to the creatively named "Martin" starring Martin Lawrence.  It was a funny enough show which I remembered having a pretty awful theme song.  I was wrong...it was really awful.  Thanks, Youtube.
