Is King Getting Royalties?

Did we seriously just turn The Running Man into a real TV show?

Well, it was already a crappy dance craze from the late 1980's.  Janet Jackson started it, I think...

Well, specifically, I'm referring to the Stephen King Richard Bachman novel "The Running Man" which was later loosely used to create the Arnold Schwarzenegger film of the same name.

So, the general idea is that people are living in a dystopian future (Ironically 2017 in the film) where vast swaths of people are part of an extremely poor underclass, desperate to do anything for money.  There is a prime time reality game show where people are offered prizes of vast wealth (In the book, it's one billion dollars...I forget what it was in the movie), if they make it to the end of the game.  The catch is that the way to make it to the end of the game is to survive for 30 days while a team of professional Hunters (or "Stalkers") tries to find and kill them.  Sort of an all-or-nothing proposition.

I won't post any spoilers here, but if you think The Governator made it through the movie without saying "I'll be back," I feel sorry for you.

So, here we are in actual 2017.  Some may say that we're living in a dystopian time (your mileage may vary), and one of the major TV networks is set to debut a new prime time reality game show.  The general idea of the show is that people are offered prizes of vast wealth ($250,000), if they make it to the end of the game.  The catch is that the way to make it to the end of the game is to survive for 30 28 days while a team of professional Hunters (or "Stalkers") tries to find and kill capture them.

Are you kidding me?
