This Just Makes Sense

Is there a Podcast about “Invasion of the Body Snatchers”?  If not, why not?

Based on an extensive 15 second Google search, there have been a number of Sci-Fi themed Podcasts that have discussed "Invasion of the Body Snatchers," but none that are exclusively devoted to it.  Seems like a missed opportunity.

At the same time, there already was a Podcast based on the website "Pod People," but they haven't had an episode in the last 3 yearsMore missed opportunity.

So, for those of you unawares, Podcasts are recordings of people talking that are found strewn about the internets.  That's really about all they do.  They give the podcasters something to talk about...namely their ranking in the subscribers list.  I assume there's some way to make money off of this, but it's not clear to me what that might be.

What's important to note is that the Pod People are the alien race featured in the 1955 novel "The Body Snatchers," later made into the famous movie(s) "Invasion of the Body Snatchers."  It seems only fair that the Pod People have a Pod Cast devoted to them.  Who's working on that?

The Merchandise Designs Itself

My new rapper name is “E”.  Or as nerds might know me, “MC Squared”

MC SQUARED IN THE HOUSE!

Also, LIR is my hype crew.

YEAH BOYYYY!  IT'S BOUTS TO GET ALL SILLY UP IN HERE!

I guess all I need at this point is a rap career.  I don't actually know how difficult that might be.  I imagine it's a little easier given the fact that I've already created My Own Record Label.

MC SQUARED THROWIN DOWN THE SICKEST BEATS AND THE TIGHTEST RHYMES ALL OVER THIS!

Okay, that's enough hype for now, I think.

Sounds good.  I don't want people to get too hyped or anything.  Overhype leads to things like The Phantom Menace.

So anyway, today's Sametime Status is an important social commentary on the diversity of stage names in the rap world.  I'm joining a long and varied list of famous rappers whose names begin with "MC."  This list includes, but is not limited to: MC Breed, MC Eiht, MC Frontalot, MC Hammer, MC Jin, MC Lyte, MC Ren, MC Serch, MC Shan, MC Solaar, MC Trouble, and MC Tunes.

Who are you kidding?  It's a terrible terrible nerd joke you thought of at like 10:30 last night and thought was hilarious.

Uhmm....it's that, too.

Is He Allowed To Ride The Goalie?

Funnier: A hockey player riding a horse, or a jockey on skates?  Discuss

If it's only the jockey, this may be a toss-up.  If the horse was skating too, I really think we're talking some pretty next-level comedy right there.

So, for today's Sametime Status, we're examining the effect of a single letter change on a word.  In hindsight, this might have made for a really fun Theme Week...in fact, it still might...stay tuned.

Anyway, the words "Hockey" and "Jockey" are only off by one letter, and mean very different things. We'll ignore the fact that one is the name of a sport, and the other is the name of a participant in a sport because that takes away from everybody's pleasure, and we don't want to do that here.  So, picture if you will:

Hockey players are often fairly large expanses of humanity.  Not always, certainly, but when people think of the stereotypical hockey player, they think of the 6 foot plus goon with muscles on top of muscles, minimal teeth, and a predisposition to punching others.  This is a stereotype, people...and as you know, all generalizations are wrong.  Anyway, hockey players wear thick pads over most of their body, have a helmet, skates, and a graphite composite stick.  Imagine this person riding a horse.

Horse racing jockeys are typically folks of minimal stature wearing remarkably colorful clothing, leather boots, a helmet, and carrying a riding crop.  Imagine this person being checked into the boards of a hockey rink by a 6 foot 230 pound defenseman.

I honestly don't know which of these mental pictures I find more amusing.
